Besides my partner, I have some friends that I would reach out to, and usually do either a phone- or a Skype conversation. The public health services, they have a 1-800 number. I would reach out to one of the public health nurses.

What I’ve experienced with them is a phone conversation. So they’ll have a phone conversation right away. If a nurse isn’t available, they call back, usually within the day, if not, by the next day. And it’s just… it’s talking with them about how I’d been feeling, and they’ve done a depression screening, anxiety screening. Like there’s some standardised survey sort of thing that they’ll go through the questions. And then they’ll also arrange for a nurse to come out. And there’s a programme called Healthy Babies, Healthy Families, where, as I’ve learned, one can actually set up a nurse coming back on a regular basis to your house, at a time that works for you and your child, to do that face-to-face check-in. And the face-to-face check-in, because I’ve had that done a couple of times, is just talking about how things are going, talking about what resources are in place, what other resources you’re tapping into. And I also just learned recently about different phone lines that can be reached, so that it’s a 24-hour, seven day a week service.
